What the $200 Dining Credit Is
You get a $200 dining credit each calendar year from your personal American Express® Platinum Card when you spend at least $200 at a participating restaurant in Canada.
It’s a great opportunity for you to enjoy some of the best restaurants in the country and get $200 back!
AWP TIP
This is a calendar-year credit, so you get a $200 credit every January 1.
This means that you can use it twice in your first year of card membership for a total of $400 in statement credits.
Just keep in mind that the second $200 may be clawed back if you cancel the card at renewal.
How You Use the Credit
First, opt in to the dining credit through your American Express® account, either on desktop or in the mobile app. You only need to do this once.

Then choose a restaurant from the American Express® Platinum dining restaurant list in Canada. Restaurants are added and updated all the time, so it’s worth checking the latest list before heading out.
Simply, pay at least $200 for your dine-in meal to receive the full $200 statement credit.

AWP TIP
If your bill is over $200, put $200 on your Amex® Platinum Card so the dining credit applies.
Then pay the rest with your Amex® Cobalt to earn the 5x Membership Rewards points on food and drinks.
What to Expect When You Use the Credit
You’ll see the $200 credit appear after your dining charge posts to your account. It usually shows up once the transaction settles.
You’re using this credit at higher-end restaurants, so expect an outstanding atmosphere, food, and service. For many people, this ends up being a date night, a special occasion, or a meal they wouldn’t normally book without the credit.
You’ll also notice that your final out-of-pocket cost depends on what you order. Food alone can get you close to the $200 threshold. Alcohol can push your bill a bit higher.
As long as the restaurant is on the list, you’ve opted in, and your dine-in spend reaches $200 , the credit applies consistently.
Bottom Line
You’ll get a lot of value from the American Express Platinum® Card through its benefits and statement credits. It lets you travel in comfort and keep more money in your pocket.
The $200 dining credit is one of several Platinum benefits that can be used each year to offset the card’s annual fee.
It’s letting you enjoy a high-end restaurant experience and get $200 back each calendar year.
