Sarah and Greg from Toronto
Sarah and Greg live in Toronto and were only earning 1 point per dollar on everything. During our 1-on-1 points consultation, we identified that their largest household spending was on groceries and dining. They wanted to fly business class to Europe for the summer.
Based on our plan, Sarah opened the Amex Cobalt for all grocery, dining, and everyday spend. Greg opened the TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite Privilege for places that don’t accept Amex, like Costco.
In a few months, they had enough points for business class flights via Air France with Air France on the way there and via Aeroplan with SWISS on the way back.
The Miller Family from Calgary
The Miller Family from Calgary had a large home renovation coming up. During our 1-on-1 points consultation, we identified that they have the Avion Visa Infinite card and wanted to fly Business Class to Asia at the end of the year.
Based on our plan, George opened the Amex Platinum to earn the large welcome bonus by putting all thier reno expenses on the card. They also switched their everyday spend to the RBC ION+ to earn 3 points on gas and groceries.
In a few months, they had enough points to transfer to British Airways Avios and book two Business Class flights to Hong Kong with Cathay Pacific.
The Thompson Family from Vancouver
The Thompson Family from Vancouver was using the CIBC Aventura card but didn’t feel like they were getting enough value.
During our 1-on-1 points consultation, we identified that they wanted to fly to Costa Rica for Christmas. They couldn’t meet a large welcome spend in a short time but could over a longer period.
We chose the Amex Cobalt and Amex Gold for their strategy. They also each opened the Amex Marriott Bonvoy card during a high promotion.
Within months, they had enough points to all four of them on WestJet via Flyign Blue. They also earned enough Marriott points for five nights.
