Flying Blue Loyalty Program
Air France KLM Flying Blue is one of our favourite frequent flyer programs in Canada because it is super valuable for international and sun travel.
With a strong partner network, it’s easy to redeem Flying Blue miles for trips to Europe, Sun Destinations and many other popular destinations.
You can transfer American Express® Membership Rewards® points to Flying Blue at a 1 to 1 ratio. This makes it a great program in Canada for turning your regualr spending into flights. For more tips, start with our guide on how to find Flying Blue Award Flights.
The Flying Blue Family program lets you pool miles with up to 8 members. Plus, kids aged 2 to 11 get 25% off award tickets on Air France and KLM.
Making it even easier for families to travel together for Spring Break.
How to Earn Flying Blue Miles
It’s easy to earn plenty of Flying Blue miles in Canada by transferring points from many American Express® Membership Rewards® cards.
These personal and business cards come with generous welcome bonuses and strong earning rates on dining, groceries, and transportation, like the Amex® Cobalt.
Some cards, like the Amex® Platinum and Amex® Business Platinum, include great travel benefits like lounge access and hotel status. All of which make it easier to earn points while getting more value from your travel.
Amex® Membership Rewards points now transfer to Flying Blue at a 1 to 1 ratio. Plus, Amex® often offers transfer bonuses that make it even more worthwhile.

AWP TIP
If you’re able, consider looking at dates just a day or two earlier or later. It can make a big difference and open up more award space for your family.

Sun Destinations
Flying Blue is a hidden gem for getting to sun destinationsfor Spring Break.
There’s a lot of value here, because they partner with WestJet, so you can use your miles to book direct flights from most Canadian cities to popular beach spots. That would otherwise be expensive when paying cash.
You can head to places like Fort Lauderdale for only 12,500 points or Cancun, Montego Bay, or Puerto Vallarta for only 14,500 miles one-way in Economy.
Flying Blue often has better availability and lower award pricing for these routes than other programs. Especially during pick travel time like holidays and Spring break.
If you’re looking for a tropical or sun getaway without a long flight, using your points for these WestJet partner award bookings is a great way to go.

AWP TIP
Consider being flexible with your destination to find better award space. For sun spots, checking nearby or alternate locations can often open up way more options for the whole family.
International Economy
Europe is a great destination for families for Spring Break. There’s still lots of availability to many major cities and tourist destinations in International Economy with Flying Blue.
You can fly directly from many Canadian cities to Paris with Air France or to Amsterdam with KLM for only 25,000 miles.
You can also take advantage of the new direct route from Toronto to London with Virgin Atlantic for even less. This route is only 23,500 points in Economy.
You can also look at hopping on a quick train or a short flight if your final destination is elsewhere in Europe.

Bottom Line
Flying Blue is one of the best ways to get your family away for Spring Break without spending a fortune.
There’s still award availability whether you’re looking to explore a European city or want to sit on a beach in Florida or the Caribbean.
Points are easy to earn with many American® Express Reward cards.
Plus, there’s still affordable availability in Economy at 25,000 miles to Europe and 17,500 miles to Sun Destinations.
Making Flying Blue a much better option than many other programs for Spring Break.
