Aeroplan® is by far our favourite frequent flyer program in Canada because it’s so versatile and rewarding.
With plenty of partners, it’s easy to earn and redeem Aeroplan® points wherever you want to travel.
You can earn Aeroplan® points from flights, retail partners, and a great lineup of Aeroplan® credit cards.
Plus, Aeroplan® credit cards save you money out of pocket with benefits like free checked bags, lounge access, and travel insurance.
You can also earn plenty of points from American Express® Membership Rewards® points that transfer to Aeroplan® at a 1:1 ratio.
Redeeming Aeroplan® points for flights is where you get to travel for nearly free.
With Aeroplan®, you can book flights with more airlines than any other frequent-flyer program. Taking you to almost any destination in the world.
Aeroplan® members can also earn Elite Status that comes with even more valuable benefits.
That’s why we value Aeroplan® points at 2 cents per point.

How Much are Aeroplan® Points Worth
Aeroplan® uses dynamic pricing, so there isn’t one fixed value for your points. The value depends on how you redeem them.
You can generally expect around 2 cents per Aeroplan® point in value when you redeem for flights.
Premium Economy and Business Class redemptions on Star Alliance partners can deliver much higher value. That is where points can save you the most money.
Aeroplan® offers other redemptions like gift cards, online shopping, car rentals and hotels. We don’t recommend wasting your poinst on those due to poor value.
Points Valuation in 2025
Wondering how much travel points are worth?
Not all points have the same value. We will help you sort it out and get the most value in Canada.
Search for Flights with Aeroplan® Points
To search for flights with Aeroplan® points, log in to your Aeroplan® account online or in the mobile app.
You don’t need any Aeroplan® points in your account to search. Which makes it easy to check flight options before you’re ready to book.
Enter your trip details, including where you’re flying from, your destination, travel dates, number of travellers, and whether it’s a one-way, round-trip, or multi-city itinerary.
Make sure to select “Book with Aeroplan® points” at the top.

You’ll see results showing Aeroplan® points pricing for all available flights with Air Canada and any of its 48+ partner airlines.
From the results screen, you can filter by cabin class, number of stops, total duration, or price.
You can also expand any itinerary to view aircraft details, layover durations, and fare classes.

On the final step before booking, you’ll see four options showing how much of your flight is paid with points and how much with cash.
The best value comes from paying for your base flight fully with points and covering taxes and air transport charges in cash.
Even though Aeroplan® marks the second option as “popular,” the third option gives you the best overall value for your Aeroplan® points.
In this example, that means using 10,900 Aeroplan® points and $120.58 in cash.

AWP TIP
With Aeroplan® redemptions, you can add stopovers outside North America.
You can add one stop for 5,000 Aeroplan® points each way, or two stops for 10,000 points on a round trip.
It’s a great way to visit another destination on the same trip.

Redeem Aeroplan® Points for Air Canada Flights
With Air Canada flights, there are no blackout dates or seat restrictions.
You can redeem your Aeroplan® points for any available seat. If you can pay cash for it, you can book it with points.
Air Canada redemptions use dynamic pricing. So the number of Aeroplan® points needed changes based on demand, destination, and cabin class.
With hundreds of direct flights to and from Canada, Air Canada redemptions offer plenty of options and great convenience.
You’ll find solid value on short and long-haul economy routes within North America.
Routes like Toronto to New York are typicaly between 6,000 to 10,000 Aeroplan® points each way.
Toronto to Fort Lauderdale for example are usually between 10,000 and 17,500 points Aeroplan® each way.
When you fly Air Canada, you’ll also enjoy Aeroplan® Elite benefits and Aeroplan® credit card perks like free checked bags. Plus, you’ll get priority check-in, priority boarding, and lounge access with premium cards.

We added two authorized users to our American Express® Cobalt during a promotion that offered 10,000 bonus Membership Rewards® points per user, with no extra fee.
We earned the bonus points easily through our regular spending.
We transferred those Membership Rewards® points to Aeroplan®. Then booked a round trip to Fort Lauderdale.
This was a super rewarding way to save money on travel.
AWP TIP
If you’re a primary Aeroplan® credit cardholder, you get preferred pricing on Aeroplan® flight redemptions with Air Canada.
Anyone in your Family Sharing group gets the same benefit, so everyone needs fewer points for the same flight.

Redeem Aeroplan® Points for Partner Flights
Aeroplan®’s Star Alliance network gives you access to hundreds of destinations across Europe, Asia, Africa, and South America.
It’s one of the largest airline networks in the world, so you can redeem Aeroplan® points almost anywhere.
Aeroplan®’s award chart for Star Alliance partners makes pricing predictable and super valuable.
Unlike Air Canada flights, partner awards have limited availability. Only a certain number of seats are released to Aeroplan®.
There’s a $39 CAD partner booking fee for any ticket that includes a partner airline.
You’ll find economy flights between Canada’s East Coast and Europe between 30,000 to 40,000 points each way.
If you prefer more trips over premium cabins, Star Alliance economy awards to Europe can be a great way to travel nearly for free.
Some of the best value when redeeming Aeroplan® points is on Star Alliance business class flights between the East Coast and Europe.
With only 60,000 to 70,000 points one way, you’ll get to your destination well rested in a lie-flat seat with top service and food.
Some of the following Star Alliance routes will connect you to almost anywhere in Europe and beyond:
You’ll also enjoy shared Aeroplan® Elite Status benefits when flying with Star Alliance partners, making every flight more comfortable.

One of our favourite Aeroplan® redemptions is on overnight flights from Toronto to Europe in business class.
It’s an excellent value at only 70,000 Aeroplan® points each way with a Star Alliance partner.
We often redeem Aeroplan® points for business class flights with TAP Air Portugal to Lisbon.
It’s the perfect way to get a good night’s sleep in a lie-flat seat and arrive well rested.
AWP TIP
Some Aeroplan® partner airlines, including Emirates, Flydubai, Etihad Airways, United Airlines, Canadian North, Calm Air, and PAL Airlines, use dynamic pricing similar to Air Canada.
Change or Cancel Aeroplan® Reward Flights
Unlike most low cash fares, where you’d lose the entire ticket, Aeroplan® redemptions stand out because they save you money when plans change.
You can cancel your reward flight for free within 24 hours of booking. After that, a change or cancellation fee may apply. You’ll still get your points, taxes, and fees refunded.
The fee ranges from $100 to $150 each way. It’s usually cheaper to change than to cancel.
You can also skip the fee if you upgrade to premium economy or business class.
To make a change or cancellation, just go to Manage My Booking on the Air Canada website.
A few months after booking an Aeroplan® economy flight to Mexico for the holidays, we noticed business class was available for fewer points.
We changed it online in minutes and didn’t pay a fee since it counted as an upgrade.
We even got some points back and flew to Mexico in business class instead.
Bottom Line
Aeroplan® is one of the best loyalty programs in Canada. You can redeem Aeroplan® points to travel more for far less than with any other program.
Redemptions offer strong value and plenty of flexibility. You’ll find reasonable rates, optional stopovers, and easy changes if plans shift.
You can fly almost anywhere in the world with Air Canada and 48 partner airlines.
Plus, you’ll enjoy valuable benefits with Aeroplan® Elite Status and Aeroplan® credit cards like the TD® Aeroplan® Visa* Infinite and TD® Aeroplan® Visa* Infinite Privilege.
