Redeem MR® for Fixed Points Travel
You can redeem your American Express Membership Rewards® points through the Fixed Points Travel program for round-trip flights booked on the American Express® Travel portal.
The number of points you’ll need depends on your destination and distance. You’ll need enough points for the full fare. Taxes and fees are paid with cash.
This is simple and flexible option, but you’ll usually get only around 1 cent per point.
Flights booked through this program could earn airline miles and count toward elite status. This adds a bit of value back. To redeem, just log in to the American Express® Travel portal and choose “Fixed Points Travel“.

Redeem MR® for Flexible Points Travel
You can redeem your American Express Membership Rewards® points for almost any type of travel through the Amex® Travel platform. This includes flights, hotels, car rentals, and vacation packages.
You’ll get a consistent value of around 1 cent per point. Decent value, but not the best use of your points.
To redeem, log in to the American Express® Travel portal portal and choose “Flexible Points Travel“.

Redeem MR® for Statement Credit
You can redeem your American Express Membership Rewards® points for statement credits to offset eligible purchases on your American Express® card.
You’ll get a fixed value of around 1 cent per point, with a minimum redemption of 1,000 points. You can also use points to cover part of a charge, which makes it handy for everyday spending.
It’s quick and easy, but you’ll get much lower value compared to other redemption options like transferring to airline or hotel partners.
To redeem, log in to your American Express® account, choose the charge you want to cover, and select “Use Points for Purchases“.

Redeem MR® for Merchandise and Gift Cards
You can redeem your American Express Membership Rewards® points for gift cards or merchandise, but it’s one of the weakest options available.
You’ll usually get between 0.5 and 1 cent per point, which is much lower than what you’d get from travel transfers or even statement credits. For example, with 12,500 points, you can get a $100 American Express® prepaid card, but you could cover $125 in statement credits.
These redemptions are easy to make, but they don’t offer good value and aren’t the best use of your hard-earned points.

Bottom Line
You can redeem Membership Rewards® points from American Express® cards in plenty of ways, from travel to statement credits and gift cards.
