Points can be one of the most valuable ways to save money on travel in Canada. The right points can take you further, faster, and make flying or staying at great hotels feel nearly free.
One of the most common questions we get is, “How much is points and miles are worth?”
The answer depends on how you earn and redeem the points. Airlines, hotels, and credit cards don’t publish official valuations, so it’s up to you to decide based on how you use them.
At Adventures With Points (AWP), we track the average value of major programs in Canada using real-world redemptions. Our goal is to help you understand what your points are worth and where you’ll get the most value.
Here’s how we at Adventures With Points (AWP) value points in Canada and where you’ll find the best return for your travel goals.

Credit Card Points Valuation
Credit card points aren’t all created equal. I’ve seen too many people save up points for years, ready to book their dream family trip, only to discover their “travel” points barely cover one flight.
Some credit card points work like cash back, with a fixed value set by the bank that you can redeem for statement credits. For example, TD Rewards and BMO Rewards points fall into this category, usually worth around 0.5 to 0.67 cents per point toward travel. Fixed-value credit card points can feel safe, but they rarely take you far.
Other points, like American Express® Membership Rewards®, have both fixed and dynamic value. You can redeem Membership Rewards® points for a statement credit at 1 cent per point, meaning 20,000 points equal $200 in travel. That’s decent, but not where the real value lies.
You’ll get the most value when you transfer Membership Rewards® to airline and hotel partners such as Aeroplan®, Flying Blue, Marriott Bonvoy®, and Hilton Honors. When you redeem directly with partners, you’ll get about 2.2 cents or more per point, especially on premium flights or hotels with high cash prices.

Air France–KLM Flying Blue is also a great option for Canadians since it’s also an American Express® Membership Rewards® transfer partner.
Points transfer at a 1:0.75 ratio, but with transfer bonuses and monthly Promo Rewards, Flying Blue can offer great value for transatlantic flights.
