Marriott Bonvoy® is one of our favourite hotel programs in Canada because it gives you more value every time you redeem points.
You can earn Marriott Bonvoy® points from hotel stays, co-branded Marriott Bonvoy® credit cards, and transferable American Express® Membership Rewards® points.
With over 8,000 properties worldwide across 30 brands, you’ll find plenty of ways to redeem those points for nearly free stays.
There are no blackout dates for standard rooms, so you can redeem points whenever a room is available for cash.
One of the best ways to get even more value from your Marriott Bonvoy® points is with the 5th Night Free. When you redeem points for five consecutive nights, you’ll only need enough points for four nights, and the fifth night is free.
You’ll find great opportunities for extended stays with more nights for less while saving you money on travel.
Here’s how to use the Marriott Bonvoy® 5th Night Free for maximum value.

How Much are Marriott Bonvoy® Points Worth
Marriott Bonvoy® uses dynamic pricing, so there isn’t one fixed value for your points. The value depends on how and when you redeem them.
You can redeem points for any standard room available for cash, with no blackout dates. That makes it simple to use your points whenever you find the right hotel.
You can generally expect around 1 cent per Marriott Bonvoy® point in value when you redeem for hotels.
Luxury resorts and high-end properties during peak seasons often give you higher value. That’s where points can save you the most money and make your stays feel nearly free.
Marriott Bonvoy® also lets you transfer points to airline partners, but we don’t recommend it. The value is usually much lower than redeeming for hotels.
Points Valuation in 2025
Wondering how much travel points are worth?
Not all points have the same value. We will help you sort it out and get the most value in Canada.
Marriott Bonvoy® 5th Night Free: How It Works
The Marriott Bonvoy® 5th Night Free is one of our favourite ways to use points. It’s a super valuable option when you’re planning a longer trip and want to make your points go further.
When you redeem Marriott Bonvoy® points for five consecutive nights at a Marriott property, you’ll only need enough points for four nights. The lowest priced night in points will be free and applied automatically when you book..
All Marriott Bonvoy® members qualify for this. You don’t need Elite Status, and there are no blackout dates for standard rooms.
Here’s what to keep in mind:
For example, if your five-night stay includes four nights at 80,000 points and one night at 60,000 points, the 60,000 points night will be free. You’ll redeem a total of 320,000 Marriott Bonvoy® points for all five nights, which is a great deal!
AWP TIP
If you or your partner have a Free Night Certificate from the Marriott Bonvoy® American Express® Card or the Marriott Bonvoy® Business American Express® Card, you can use them together after a 5th Night Free booking.
That way, you can turn your stay into a full seven-night vacation for nearly free.
How to Redeem for Marriott Bonvoy® 5th Night Free
You’ll start by logging into your Marriott Bonvoy® account online or on the app and entering your destination and number of guests.
Enter your desired five consecutive nights under travel dates and check the “Use Points/Awards” box before you search.

In your search results, you’ll see a note at the top saying you’re getting a fifth night free for every four you book.
You’ll see the total number of Marriott Bonvoy® points needed for your stay, reflecting the 5th Night Free.
You’ll also see any additional destination fees that apply regardless of the type of reservation.

You can also start with flexible five-night dates in your desired month to find availability and the best rates.

For example, the Hollywood Beach Marriott in Florida shows a total of 183,000 points for June 7 to June 12, 2026, plus a $20 USD daily destination fee.
That daily fee is fairly standard for beachfront Marriott properties like this.
The same hotel shows a prepaid cash rate of $293 USD per night including the daily fee, but that option is non-refundable and non-changeable. So we wouldn’t recommend it.
There are multiple room options available at the same 183,000 points five-night rate, including a Two Queen, Partial Ocean View room with a balcony.

The standard cash rate for the same Two Queen, Partial Ocean View room with a balcony is $1,760 USD.
To compare apples to apples, that’s $1,660 USD before resort fees, which are also due on points bookings. That works out to about $2,333 CAD versus 183,000 points.
That’s roughly 1.27 cents per point, a solid return and above our 1 cent per point valuation for Marriott Bonvoy® points.

Your final booking will show the total number of points needed, with the lowest-priced night free. In this example, that’s Tuesday, June 9, at 43,000 points per night.

How to Maximize Marriott’s Fifth Night Free
You’ll get the best value from the 5th Night Free when you redeem Marriott Bonvoy® points at luxury or high-demand properties where cash rates are usually high.
Hotels like the JW Marriott or The Ritz-Carlton in major destinations such as Paris, New York, or Lisbon can deliver excellent value.
For example, The Ritz-Carlton Penha Longa Resort in Sintra, one of our favourite hotels in Portugal, is 259,000 points with the 5th Night Free in July.
With nightly cash rates often around $750 CAD, that’s a solid return of about 1.44 cents per Marriott Bonvoy® point, plus you get to enjoy a luxury stay while exploring Lisbon and Sintra at the height of summer.

You’ll also find great value at Marriott all-inclusive resorts, especially in popular vacation spots like Cancun.
Your points go much further at resorts like the Marriott Cancun, An All-Inclusive Resort, since rates include double occupancy along with food, drinks, and entertainment.

We love using the 5th Night Free at The Westin Lagunamar Ocean Resort Villas & Spa, Cancun.
It’s one of our favourite ways to use Marriott Bonvoy® points. The villas come with a full kitchen, washer and dryer, and a separate living room, making it perfect for longer stays.
The beachfront location is unbeatable, and you’re steps away from incredible restaurants and shops.
