Marriott Bonvoy® is one of our favourite hotel programs in Canada because it’s flexible and offers great value.
You can earn Marriott Bonvoy® points from hotel stays, co-branded Marriott Bonvoy® credit cards, and transferable American Express® Membership Rewards® points.
You can also transfer American Express® Membership Rewards® points to Marriott Bonvoy® at a 1:1.2 ratio to build your balance even faster.
With over 8,000 properties worldwide, from city hotels to luxury resorts and all-inclusives, Marriott Bonvoy® points can take you almost anywhere you want for nearly free stays.
You can redeem points for any standard room available for cash, with no blackout dates. You’ll also enjoy the 5th Night Free when you redeem points for five consecutive nights.
Plus, Marriott Bonvoy® credit cards come with great benefits like 15 Elite Night Credits and an annual Free Night Certificate that gets you a nearly free night every year.
Marriott Bonvoy® members can also earn Elite Status for even more on-property benefits and upgrades.
That’s why we value Marriott Bonvoy® points at 1 cent per point.

How Much are Marriott Bonvoy® Points Worth
Marriott Bonvoy® uses dynamic pricing, so there isn’t one fixed value for your points. The value depends on how and when you redeem them.
You can redeem points for any standard room available for cash, with no blackout dates. That makes it simple to use your points whenever you find the right hotel.
You can generally expect around 1 cent per Marriott Bonvoy® point in value when you redeem for hotels.
Luxury resorts and high-end properties during peak seasons often give you higher value. That’s where points can save you the most money and make your stays feel nearly free.
Marriott Bonvoy® also lets you transfer points to airline partners, but we don’t recommend it. The value is usually much lower than redeeming for hotels.
Points Valuation in 2025
Wondering how much travel points are worth?
Not all points have the same value. We will help you sort it out and get the most value in Canada.
Redeem Marriott Bonvoy® Points for Hotels
With Marriott Bonvoy® points, you can redeem for nearly free hotel nights almost anywhere in the world.
You can redeem points across more than 8,000 hotels and 30 brands in over 130 countries, including city hotels, luxury resorts, and all-inclusive properties.
There’re no blackout dates for standard rooms when you redeem points. If a standard room is available for cash, you can redeem points for that same room.
Marriott Bonvoy® uses dynamic pricing, so the number of points needed varies by date and demand. You won’t know the points required until you search your travel dates.
Check out some of our favourite Marriott Bonvoy® Points redemptions.
AWP TIP
If your plans change, there’s plenty of flexibility. Unlike cash bookings, most hotel points redemptions can be cancelled up to 48 hours before arrival.
You can simply cancel online, and your points will be refunded automatically.
Redeeming Marriott Bonvoy® Points
You can search and redeem Marriott Bonvoy® points for unforgettable hotel nights online or in the mobile app.
You don’t need any points in your account to explore options, making it easy to plan your next redemption.
Enter your destination, check-in and check-out dates, and number of guests.
Then select Redeem Points and click Find Hotels to see properties available for redemption.

You’ll see results showing Marriott Bonvoy® points pricing for all available properties in your destination, across all 30 Marriott brands.
From the results page, you can filter by Availability, Points Range, Amenities, Brands, Distance, and more.
You can also sort by Distance, Guest Rating, or Price in points to find the best fit for your trip.

You can click on any hotel to see its details, photos, room types, and amenities.
You’ll also see exactly how many Marriott Bonvoy® points you’ll need for each available room.
You can change the currency display, but we recommend keeping it in the local currency to avoid conversion fees.

For example, one of our favourite Ritz-Carlton resorts, the Penha Longa Resort in Sintra, Portugal, shows a Deluxe Room at 48,000 points or 609 EUR for a one-night stay from July 2 to 3, 2026, which is roughly $1,000 CAD.
Since we value Marriott Bonvoy® points at about 1 cent each, this redemption gives you more than double that at an outstanding resort in the heart of Sintra.
AWP TIP
It’s handy to exclude taxes and fees when comparing cash versus points rates since you’ll pay those either way.
Once you’re ready to book, include them so you know what to expect out of pocket. This is especially important for hotels with resort fees, as those are usually not waived on points bookings.
The Flexible Calendar is another useful tool for finding the best value since Marriott Bonvoy® uses dynamic pricing.
Simply click on the calendar and select Flexible Dates to view the points required per night, one month at a time.
From there you can adjust the number of night and the selected month.

If your travel dates are flexible, this is one of the easiest ways to find lower redemption rates and get more value from your points.

On the final step before booking, you’ll see the total points needed for your stay.
You’ll also see any taxes and resort fees that must be paid separately in cash.

AWP TIP
Since Marriott uses dynamic pricing, it’s worth checking your reservation from time to time.
If the points rate drops before your stay, you can simply modify your booking online, and the difference in points will be refunded to your account.

Redeeming Marriott Bonvoy® Fifth Night Free with Points
The Marriott Bonvoy® 5th Night Free is one of the best ways to get more value when you redeem points for hotels on longer stays.
When you redeem points for five consecutive nights, you’ll only need enough points for four nights. The fifth night is free. Marriott automatically applies it during booking, so you’ll see the total points adjusted right away.
For example, if a five-night stay costs 60,000 points per night, you’ll only redeem 240,000 points for the entire stay with the 5th Night Free.
All Marriott Bonvoy® members can redeem points for a 5th Night Free at any Marriott Bonvoy® brand worldwide, as long as there’s standard room availability.
Just make sure all five nights are booked in one consecutive points only reservation. Cash + Points bookings or Free Night Certificates don’t qualify.
Award nights are dynamically priced, so the free night applies to the lowest nightly rate in points within your stay.

AWP TIP
Marriott all-inclusives are an excellent way to redeem points for a 5th Night Free. Points pricing is based on double occupancy per room.
Make sure to include everyone in your reservation so you have a clear understanding of any extra daily cash charges for adding up to two children.

Marriott Bonvoy® Free Night Certificates
Marriott Bonvoy® Free Night Certificates are one of the best ways to redeem points for nearly free hotels.
You’ll earn a Free Night Certificate every year on your anniversary with the Marriott Bonvoy® American Express® Card and the Marriott Bonvoy® Business American Express® Card. This is one of the main reasons we keep our Marriott Bonvoy® credit cards.
Each certificate is worth up to 35,000 points and can be topped up with up to 15,000 Marriott Bonvoy® points, letting you redeem for hotels costing up to 50,000 points per night.
The beauty is that there’re no blackout dates for Free Night Certificates, and you can redeem them as long as there’s standard room availability.
Certificates are valid for 12 months from the date they’re issued, and your stay must be completed before they expire.
Both my spouse and I have the Marriott Bonvoy® American Express® Card, which means we each earn a Free Night Certificate every year.
We love combining them with a 5th Night Free redemption to turn those two certificates into a seven nights vacation for nearly free.
It’s one of our favourite ways to stretch our points and enjoy a week away without spending anything on hotels.
Bottom Line
Marriott Bonvoy® is one of the best hotel loyalty programs in Canada. You can redeem Marriott Bonvoy® points at over 8,000 Marriott hotels and resorts almost anywhere in the world.
There are no blackout dates for standard rooms, so you can redeem points whenever a standard room is available for cash. You’ll get even more value when you redeem points for a 5th Night Free.
You’ll also enjoy valuable benefits with your Marriott Bonvoy® Elite Status and Marriott Bonvoy® credit cards, like the Marriott Bonvoy® American Express® Card and the Marriott Bonvoy® Business American Express® Card.
With an annual Free Night Certificate from Marriott Bonvoy® credit cards, you can redeem for nearly free stays at thousands of Marriott hotels and resorts worldwide.
